First Haircut

We did some shopping at the mall on Sunday afternoon. Andrew kicked up his feet and got comfortable while we shopped. Then, it was time for his first haircut! Joey was not thrilled about this idea, but I could not stand the long, shaggy hair over his ears. He was always getting food stuck in his hair, and it looked dirty all of the time. A lot of people told me that it was bad luck to cut a baby's hair before he was one year. I don't believe in bad/good luck, but I do like traditions. I've been trying to find the time to take him since his first birthday.

Andrew did not cry at all during his haircut. He took one of his favorite kitten books, and read it most of the time. He did give the stylist the "eyebrow" when she would reach for his hair. If you have spent any time with Andrew, you are familiar with the eyebrow. He wasn't upset, but just curious why someone kept touching his hair.

He got to hold an orange comb, so we started brushing the fur on his kittens.

Because he did so well, we took him for a reward in the mall. He got to ride the Popeye ride with Da da.

Look at his big boy hair! No more hair falling over his ears!

Then, he rode the blue jeep at the mall.

He understood what to do and liked spinning the steering wheel. He's becoming such a big boy!

Party Animal

Andrew was a social butterfly this weekend. He had out of town friends come to see him and went to two birthday parties. Lately, he is so easy to travel with because we have downgraded from the big diaper bag to this cute backpack. He just does not need as much as he used to when we travel. He normally takes a back up outfit, some diapers/wipes, and the rest of the backpack is stuffed with....take a wild guess...books! Some of my favorite people from Wetumpka came to Tuscaloosa on Saturday. Here is Andrew with Ryan. Ryan was one of my best friends throughout high school, and we were in the youth group together at church. Andrew had just woken up from a nap when this was taken.

Here is Mariella--Ryan's mother and one of my mom's best friends. She is always spoiling Andrew with new clothes and toys.

After our friends left, Andrew went to a princess themed birthday party for Ashlyn Ryan, a little girl from our church. I forgot to take any pictures at this party, but it was really cute. Then, we went to a train themed party later in the evening for Ayden and Avery Mapp--also friends from church. Joey got off of work in time to join us at the park for that party.

There was a train for us to ride around the park. Andrew seemed to enjoy it.

Joey and I could not agree on whether the person who drives the train is a conductor or an engineer. Here we are with that person...whatever he is called! I love this picture because of Andrew's face. He is yelling "Da-da" at the top of his lungs. Double click on the picture to get a closer look.

Now, we come to the highlight of Andrew's day. He ate cheese puffs at the party. Actually, he devoured them.

The pictures do not even come close to capturing how much he loved the cheese puffs. He never gets to eat anything like this. I want him to be so healthy, but Joey and I also realize that a diet of only organic, fresh food is not realistic. While that is what he eats the majority of the time, we want him to (every once in a while) get to go crazy. He was grabbing cheese puffs from other adults' hands, reaching for the bag, and stuffing his face!

This shouldn't make me sad, but it does.

Lately, Andrew looks like such a little boy in his pictures instead of a baby. It is such a bittersweet feeling for me. He loves to stand at the fireplace and read his books. The obsession with books is still going strong!

Andrew is 1! We celebrated this weekend with a dinosaur themed party in honor of our one-a-saurus. When we first brought Andrew home from the hospital, one of Joey's coworkers gave us a lot of newborn onesies with dinosaurs on them. We always joked that he loved dinosaurs, so this party was fitting for him. I loved the little dinosaur onesies so much that I even have one of them framed in my bedroom. Here are some pictures from the party.

The chicken nuggets were shaped like dinosaurs.

We had to have watermelon--Andrew's favorite:)

I can't believe that my little buddy is one. Look at his cute dinosaur outfit.

We had a slideshow of our favorite pictures playing throughout the party.

Andrew got so many presents! He has loved playing with all of his new stuff.

Joey with Andrew and John Marshall:

Andrew is such a lucky little boy with so many people who love him. We invited our family and friends from our Sunday School class. I did not do a good job of getting pictures of everyone, but here are some of the family/friends who came.

Robin and Leanna Thurston:

We did invite one friend from daycare. Andrew would have been very upset with me if his best buddy (Jon Ivan Thomas) was not there. I work with Jon Ivan's mom, and our boys are very close. Here are the two of them with very serious faces!

Our wonderful Children's Minister, Lynne Payne:

All of Andrew's cousins were there. I loved John Marshall in the hat!

Karla and Emma Hodges:

I think that I was the most excited about Andrew eating his cake. However, I knew that he was not going to like it touching his hands. He really does not like to be dirty. He tried a couple of licks.

He really did not seem to like the taste, though. He never did smash it either. He just wanted me to clean his hands.

By this point, he was over it. He was ready for someone to clean him up.

We took some family photos after Joey cleaned him up. Here is Andrew with his aunts and uncles. Steve and Olivia could not make it because Steve had an emergency with a member of his congregation.
